Here is a link to the Filson Website that gives you a history of the Tin Cloth jackets. It's an interesting history.

Here is a quick summary:

Tin Cloth Cruiser, an iconic garment from the C.C. Filson Company with roots dating back to 1897. Originally designed as the Cruiser shirt, it gained popularity among prospectors heading to the Klondike goldfields. In 1912, a patent was filed for the "Wool Cruiser Shirt," leading to the creation of the Tin Cloth Cruiser in the early 1920s. The jacket featured a pocket configuration inspired by the original design but used waxed cotton fabric from England, known as "tin cloth," for waterproofing and durability.

The term "cruising" was associated with the garment, especially among timber cruisers scouting forests for logging. The Tin Cloth Cruiser's waterproof quality made it highly regarded in the Pacific Northwest's rain and snow. Described as the working man's coat, it became a standard uniform for loggers and Forest Service workers. The fabric's hard-wax formulation was updated in the 1990s for easier maintenance while maintaining protection and durability.

Despite minor design variations over the decades, the Tin Cloth Cruiser has retained its ruggedness. The term "cruiser" has become synonymous with dependability, reflecting the garment's enduring qualities and those who wear it.

Now back to this jacket...

This is a stiff and tough USA-made jacket that will eventually mould into your shape. Filson jackets are made to last a lifetime. Brand new the Filson Tin Cloth jackets retail for £500.

The top section of the jacket is double-lined in the duck canvas. The back and front top panel continues over the sleeves. It has double cuffs, is snapper closed, and has large front pockets and upper hand pockets. There are a few light marks and light scuffs, and by the nature of the oiled canvas these types of jackets do get marks from where they've been folded.

A Filson this age and in this condition is a very rare find. The label in Filsons was this style from the 1970s - 1990s, however, this particular jacket is from the 1970s because the care instructions are not a separate label.

Size-wise, this fits up to a men's Medium. However, if you are small, it will fit more layers underneath.
